For UK blinds fitters

Blinds fitter quote template (UK)

A clear layout for a made to measure blinds quote that covers each window and its measurements, the blind type and fabric, whether recess or face fit, the fitting labour and how VAT is shown.

What a blinds quote should include

Blinds are cut to the size of the opening, so a quote needs to be specific to each window rather than a single lump sum. List every element clearly so the customer knows exactly what they are paying for and you are protected once the fabric is cut.

The mistakes that cost blinds fitters money on a quote

Should a blinds fitter send a quote or an estimate?

Send a firm quote once you have measured each window yourself. At that point you know the exact sizes, the blind types and the fittings, so the figure you give is the figure the customer pays. This is the safest way to price made to measure work because there is no room for a wrong size.

An estimate is for the early stage, when you are working from a rough window count or photos before a measure visit. Label it clearly as an estimate, explain that it may change after you have measured, and turn it into a firm quote once you have been out and taken the sizes.

Send a blinds quote in two minutes

QuoteSmith lets you type the job in plain words, such as the windows, the blind types, the fabrics and any motorised blinds, along with your own prices. It builds a branded, professional PDF quote in minutes, with the scope of work, your terms and the VAT laid out clearly for each window.

It is £19.99 a month, you can cancel anytime, and it works on your iPhone so you can send a quote straight after the measure visit. See how it works.

Blinds quote FAQ

Should I measure the windows myself before quoting?

Yes. Blinds are cut to size and cannot be altered once made, so you should measure each window yourself before giving a firm quote. Working from customer supplied sizes leaves you liable if a blind arrives the wrong size, so treat those as a rough guide for an estimate only.

Do I charge VAT on a blinds quote?

If you are VAT registered you add VAT at the current rate and show it as a separate line on the quote. If you are not VAT registered you do not charge it and should not show a VAT line. Either way, make it clear on the quote so the total is not disputed.

Can a customer return made to measure blinds?

Made to measure blinds are cut to the customer's own sizes, so they are generally exempt from the usual cancellation rights that apply to off the shelf goods. State clearly on the quote that the blinds are made to measure and non returnable once cut, unless they arrive faulty or not as ordered.

How long should a blinds quote stay valid?

Set a validity period so the price is not open ended, as fabric and material costs can change. A window of around 30 days is common. Put the date the quote was issued and the date it expires on the document so both you and the customer are clear.
