For UK plasterers
Plasterer quote template (UK)
A clear layout for a plastering quote that sets out the area, the finish, terms and VAT, so the customer knows exactly what they are getting for the price.
What a plastering quote should include
Plastering is fast work priced on judgement, which is exactly why the quote matters. The customer cannot always tell a skim over from a full re-plaster, so the quote has to say which one they are paying for. Get that clear and most disputes never start.
- Your business details. Trading name, address, contact, and your VAT number if registered.
- The customer and the site. Their name and the property address.
- A specific scope. The rooms and areas, ideally in square metres, and crucially whether it is a skim over sound plaster or a full hack off and re-plaster. State ceilings separately.
- Preparation. Note bonding, PVA, scrim tape on joints and any patching. Prep is where time is lost, so price it in.
- Materials and labour. Days by your rate, plus plaster, bonding, beads and consumables.
- VAT. If registered, subtotal, 20% VAT and total. If not, say so.
- Timeline. Days on site and drying time before decoration.
- Payment terms. When you expect payment.
- Exclusions. Making good beyond the plastered area, decoration and floor protection are often excluded. Say so.
- Validity period. "Valid for 30 days" so a price does not follow you around after material costs move.
A plasterer quote example
The figures below are illustrative and shown only to demonstrate the layout. They are not market rates. Price every job from your own area take off and day rate.
| Area | Detail | Amount (example only) |
|---|---|---|
| Living room | Skim over sound plaster, walls and ceiling, X square metres | £X |
| Hallway and stairs | Hack off and re-plaster to walls, bonding and skim | £X |
| Preparation | Scrim to joints, beads to corners, PVA to backgrounds | £X |
| Subtotal | £X | |
| VAT (20%, if registered) | £X | |
| Total | £X |
Scope note: "Skim over sound plaster to living room walls and ceiling, hack off and re-plaster hallway walls, all left ready to decorate after drying. Excludes decoration, floor covering and making good outside the plastered areas." Terms note: "Price assumes backgrounds are sound. If hacking off reveals a larger affected area, the extra will be quoted and agreed in writing before proceeding. Valid for 30 days."
The mistakes that cost plasterers money on a quote
- Not stating skim over versus full re-plaster. The customer sees "plaster the room" and expects the more expensive job for the cheaper price. Name the finish.
- Forgetting prep. Beads, scrim and PVA take real time. If prep is not priced, the profit disappears.
- No variations clause. On damp or old walls, hacking off often reveals more. Say extra area is quoted and agreed before you carry on.
- Confusing a quote with an estimate. A quote is a fixed price. An estimate can move. Label the document as one, never both. See quote vs estimate.
- Leaving drying time unsaid. Tell the customer the walls need to dry before decoration, so they do not blame you for a delay they did not expect.
Should a plasterer send a quote or an estimate?
For a room you can see and measure, with sound backgrounds, send a firm quote. Where damp or old plaster means the true area is hidden until you hack off, give an estimate and follow with a firm quote once the wall is exposed. Put the scope and variations in writing either way. Our guide to quote vs estimate for UK trades covers when each is fairer.

Plasterer quote FAQ
What should a plastering quote include?
Your business and the customer's details, the rooms and areas in square metres, whether it is a skim over or a full re-plaster, preparation, VAT, a timeline, payment terms, exclusions and a validity period.
Should a plasterer quote per square metre or per room?
Either works if the scope is clear. Many plasterers price per room or per wall and ceiling, but stating the area and the finish removes any doubt about what is included.
How do I quote for re-plastering after damp?
Set out the affected area, note that hacking off could reveal more, and add a variations line so extra area found once the old plaster is removed is quoted and agreed first.
Do plasterers charge VAT on a quote?
If you are VAT registered, show subtotal, 20% VAT and the total. If you are not registered, say so clearly on the quote.
