Methodology

The QuoteSmith UK Trade Pricing Index is compiled from a combination of sources to provide the most accurate picture of current trade costs across the UK.

  • Internal data -- Pricing from proposals generated through the QuoteSmith platform by verified UK tradespeople
  • Trade association publications -- Rate guides and pricing surveys from organisations such as the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE), and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC)
  • Supplier pricing -- Material cost data from major UK suppliers and merchant groups
  • Government data -- ONS construction output and labour market statistics
  • Industry surveys -- Published cost surveys from property and construction industry publications

Regional adjustments are calculated based on labour rate differentials reported across UK regions, weighted by the proportion of labour vs materials for each trade. All prices are updated quarterly.

These figures are indicative averages. Actual costs for any specific project will vary based on the exact scope of work, material specifications, site access, structural complexity, and the individual tradesperson. We recommend obtaining at least three quotes from qualified professionals for any significant project.
