For UK conservatory and orangery installers
Conservatory quote template (UK)
A clear layout for a conservatory quote that sets out scope, terms and VAT properly, so the customer knows what is included before you break ground.
What a conservatory quote should include
Conservatory quotes go wrong in two predictable places: what is under the ground and what sits on top. The base condition and the roof type are the big variables on almost every job. A good conservatory quote prices the visible work firmly, names the roof and glazing spec exactly, and handles the ground honestly, so the customer is not surprised and you are not out of pocket.
- Your business and registration. Trading name, address, contact, and your VAT number if registered. Name the registered electrician who will handle the wiring and certify it under Part P.
- The customer and the site. Their name and the property address.
- The base and groundworks. Footings, the dwarf wall, and a damp proof course tied into the house. Where the ground is unknown, say the depth is subject to what you find when you dig.
- The frame. uPVC, aluminium or timber, with the colour and finish, so the customer is pricing the same thing you are.
- The glazing. Double or triple glazed units, and whether you are supplying self cleaning or solar control glass. These change the unit price a great deal.
- The roof. Glass, polycarbonate, or a solid warm or tiled roof. Be explicit, because a solid roof changes what building control expects.
- Doors, electrics and internal finish. The doors, the wiring by a registered electrician, and any flooring, plastering and guttering you are including.
- VAT. If registered, subtotal, 20% VAT and total. If not, say so.
- Timeline, payment terms and exclusions. Days on site, deposit against ordered frames and glass, and what is left out, such as decoration or heating.
- Validity period. "Valid for 30 days" so a frame and glass price does not follow you around after supplier costs move.

Scope note: "Construct base and dwarf wall, supply and fit uPVC frame with double glazed units, fit glass roof, install doors, flooring and guttering, plaster internally, wiring and certification by a registered electrician. Excludes heating, decoration and blinds." Terms note: "Price assumes ground and existing foundations are sound to normal footing depth. Any additional excavation or made ground found will be quoted and agreed in writing before proceeding. Valid for 30 days."
The mistakes that cost conservatory installers money on a quote
- Not naming the roof type. Glass, polycarbonate and a solid tiled roof are three different prices and three different building control positions. A solid or tiled roof is often treated as an extension, so state the roof clearly and what approval it needs.
- Pricing ground you have not dug. Made ground, tree roots or old foundations can turn a good base into a loss. Price to a normal footing depth and add a clear variations line for what you find.
- Vague glazing spec. Double or triple glazed, self cleaning, solar control, these move the unit price a lot. Spell out the exact glass so nobody is surprised.
- Being unclear who does the electrics. The wiring must be done and certified by a registered electrician under Part P. Say whether that is you, your electrician, or the customer arranging their own.
- Ignoring permitted development limits. Size, glazing area and thermal separation from the house all matter. If the job pushes past permitted development, say building regs approval is needed and who arranges it.
- Confusing a quote with an estimate. A quote is a fixed price. An estimate can move. Label the document as one, never both. See quote vs estimate.
Should a conservatory installer send a quote or an estimate?
For a defined build, a conservatory to an agreed design and glazing spec on known ground, quote it firmly. Where the ground conditions or existing foundations are hidden until you dig, an estimate for the groundworks with a firm quote to follow is the honest approach. Put the scope, the roof type and the variations in writing either way. Our guide to quote vs estimate for UK trades explains when each is fairer.

Conservatory quote FAQ
What should a conservatory quote include?
Your business and any registration details, the customer and site, a specific scope covering base, frame, glazing and roof, a breakdown of labour and materials, VAT, a timeline, payment terms, exclusions and a validity period.
How do I quote a conservatory installation?
Price the base and dwarf wall from the ground conditions you can see, then the frame, the glazing spec and the roof type, and name who does the electrics. A solid or tiled roof changes building control, so quote the roof type explicitly.
Should a conservatory installer quote or estimate?
For a defined build to an agreed design, quote it firmly. Where the ground conditions or existing foundations are unknown until you dig, an estimate for the groundworks with a firm quote to follow is often fairer.
Do conservatory installers charge VAT on a quote?
If you are VAT registered, show subtotal, 20% VAT and the total. If you are not registered, say so clearly on the quote.
